RNC
- Day One (8/31/04)
The Republican National Convention ended day one centering on two
topics - September 11 and the war in Iraq. That is a good thing for
the Kerry-Edwards Presidential bid.
Voters are going to realize that the Republicans are politicizing
the September 11 attacks. That is a major mistake for either campaign
to make. The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 went beyond politics.
It was an attack on the United States of America, both Democrats and
Republicans. If George Bush wants to campaign on his record of the
war against terrorism, that is fine. But, he won't do that. The Republicans
do not want to remind voters that Osama Bin Laden is still on the
run, and that the military does not have the resources to go after
Bin Laden since we are also fighting a war in Iraq.
As for the war in Iraq, it can be
debated whether we should even be fighting it or not. It can not be
debated that the Bush Administration went into Iraq without a plan for
winning the peace. There was never a doubt that Saddam Hussein would
be defeated. The challenge was to win the support of the Iraqi people.
There wasn't a plan in place, and this has finally been admitted by
George Bush, to win the peace after a swift victory over the Iraqi
military forces.
When the Republican National Convention is over,
and the voters begin to really analyze the content of what the
Bush/Cheney supporters are saying, John Kerry can look forward to
increased support and a victory on November 2. |
